Generic Sweden AB – 2016 Annual Report

April 25, 2017

A Message from the CEO

Improved operating income

The consulting firm’s largest segment is the defense sector, with the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) as its main client; approximately 70% of its revenue comes from this segment. The remainder of its business comes from the rest of the public sector, public safety, and industry, including product-development companies in the energy, telecommunications, transportation/infrastructure, and medical technology sectors.

During the year, the consulting division both received and carried out a number of assignments from FMV—for example, regarding ground sensor systems, system development for BMS and TDL, and Satkom combat control radar—as well as from SLS IT, the National Property Board, and Telia Company, among others.

We have previously held a 20% stake in NESP (Network Enabling System Partner AB), which has a framework agreement with FMV in the area of system engineering and lifecycle support for FM command and control systems. During the year, a large number of ongoing contracts were generated through NESP based on this framework agreement.

The consulting business generated a positive operating profit of 2.2 MSEK on revenue of 56.3 MSEK for 2016. Our consulting work is characterized by high quality and efficiency, which builds trust and fosters long-term relationships with our clients.

The goal of the consulting business is to be one of the leading providers of consulting services in the field of mission-critical communications to the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV). Today, the consulting business offers in-depth technical expertise in communications, sensor technology, security, and maintenance technology, as well as domain expertise in Naval and Land, Air, and Command and Control.

Telekomverksamheten is a specialized telecommunications operator with its own radio network for critical communications, and our customers are companies, government agencies, and organizations with extremely high demands for availability, security, and service. Most emergency services, county councils, the police, all Swedish mobile operators, the largest banks and insurance companies, and private alarm companies use our solutions for their mission-critical communications. Revenue and earnings in the telecom business increased as a result of investments in Messit. During the year, we gained new customers in the Messit segment, which helped maintain the high profit margin. The telecom business continues to report both high profitability and stable demand.

The Messit business area offers a complete range of messaging services that combine SMS, email, fax, and alert services for companies, government agencies, and organizations with extremely high demands for availability, security, and service. Work on network enhancement measures in the Minicall network has continued and will continue throughout 2017, with the aim of securing Minicall’s position for the long term. By transitioning to more modern IP-based technology in the distribution network, the company aims to create opportunities for improved operational reliability, higher availability, greater flexibility, and continued extremely high reliability.

The telecommunications business offers the market’s strongest range of reliable communication solutions, featuring a number of unique services and combinations of SMS, email, Minicall, GSM, and e-fax. The business focuses on strengthening its position as one of Sweden’s leading providers of time- and business-critical messaging and on driving growth.
